As the owner of the Pinellas Framing and Finishing Company, Phil Nichols had built a successful
business on quality craftsmanship, service to his customers, and a likeable personality that knew
no strangers. Following the request of one of his key customers and close friend, Phil took on the
project of building five summer cabins along central Florida's beautiful Withlacoochee River.
During this trip Phil felt that Dunnellon, with its beautiful surroundings and more relaxed pace,
was for him. After discussing his ideas with his wife Carol, he sold the framing company and they
relocated to Dunnellon. He began serving owner-builders as a general contractor. It was as a
general contractor that Phil realized the need for a quality building products supplier in the
Dunnellon area. According to Philip Nichols, Phil's son and current Vice-President of Nichols
Lumber Company, "Dad was so mad at a lumber company (no longer in business) because they
would not pick up a bundle of crooked studs. It was at this time Dad decided he could do a better
job servicing contractors and open his own lumber company. That's how we got started."
Nichols Lumber was established in 1980 as a full service lumber yard.

Neal Wingo, Phil's friend from Clearwater, moved up to Dunnellon in
1982 and joined Phil and Carol in the business. Upon Phil's passing in
1997, Carol and Phil Jr. became partners with Neil until his retirement in 2001. Since then, Carol
and Phil Jr. have continued the operations of
Nichols Lumber, and extend a warm welcome to all their customers and friends.

The commitment to service and taking care of the customer over the past twenty five years is
what has made Nichols Lumber Company the preferred building products supplier among many of
central Florida's top builders. As the area has grown, Nichols Lumber has grown to meet the
demands of an expanding construction market. From a small lumber yard in downtown
Dunnellon, Nichols Lumber now occupies twenty acres of prime industrial property just outside
Dunnellon. No longer just a local home center, Nichols Lumber has become one of the biggest
contractor suppliers in the area. "As more and more people started to move into our area, we saw
the demand for housing explode" says Philip. "We made a strategic decision to focus our business
on new construction by servicing developers, professional builders and owner builders. We did
this while still taking care of our long time customers."

Through the years, we at Nichols Lumber have improved our facilities, upgraded our equipment,
and maintained the highest quality of inventory. However, it is our professional, competent, and
customer oriented employees that have made the difference. Our customers rely on the expertise
of every one of our employees to get their job done. This reliance demands the very best of all of
our Nichols employees, and we would have it no other way.

The same beautiful surrounding that Phil Nichols discovered thirty years ago no longer remains a
secret. As many more decide to move to our area, the demand for housing continues to grow.
Nichols Lumber Company is prepared to meet these demands, now and for the next quarter of a
century!
